Chicago and Somerville Host Pumpkin Smash Events for Composting

• SCARCE, an environmental nonprofit, is hosting its annual Pumpkin Smash in Chicago.
• The city of Somerville has installed 10 food-scrap collection bins and is hosting a pumpkin-smashing event on Nov. 7.
• Both events aim to promote composting leftover pumpkins rather than sending them to landfills.
• Chicago residents can bring their pumpkins to designated sites for smashing and composting.
• Somerville's event is part of the city's effort to reduce waste and encourage sustainable practices.
